She started her career in public relations, when she had to regularly present and speak to groups – and each time she lived through the same awkward and awful experience. She began to really hate being asked to speak.
After one particularly stressful presentation, she realised that her inability to engage her audience with confidence was holding her back and causing her a lot of sleepless nights.
“People who met me thought I was very outgoing and confident. They could hardly recognise the red-faced wreck I became when I had to speak in front of people. I either over-prepared and bored the pants off my audience because I had packed in so much detail – or I tried to speak off-the-cuff and be natural, which usually meant I became overwhelmed by adrenaline because I hadn’t prepared enough. It was lose-lose.”
